Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn’s favourite English Premier League player of all time is someone who has made just seven appearances in the competition, and we can all guess why.
This weekend, English clubs are hyping up the 30th anniversary of the Premier League’s founding, and Aston Villa asked their squad for their favourite ever player in the division on TikTok – with McGinn offering a swift: “Henrik Larsson.”
Larsson, most famous for spells at Celtic and Barcelona, spent a short time on loan at Manchester United in the 2006/07 season, scoring a goal in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
It’s a cheeky response from well-known Celtic supporter McGinn, who is clearly relying on his boyhood adoration for the Bhoys to circumvent the intention of the question.
Larsson was an absolute sensation at Celtic and an icon for everyone who followed the Bhoys at the time, even those who grew up to be Premier League stars.
McGinn isn’t the only one out there at the moment, with Andy Robertson also regularly sharing his public love for Larsson when given the opportunity.
The Swedish icon scored an incredible 242 goals in 315 appearances for the Bhoys, winning a treble and plenty of more trophies along the way up against a financially reckless Rangers.
He then went on to show just how good he was on the European stage with a game-changing performance for Barcelona in a victorious UEFA Champions League final.
Well worth the shout of “favourite ever English Premier League player” from McGinn then, despite fans down there largely missing out on his talents!
In other news, Celtic’s remaining transfer business laid out with Haksabanovic reportedly close.
