Aston Villa captain John McGinn has slammed the ‘nonsense’ from the English media about Scottish football and the job Ange Postecoglou did at Celtic.
The Scotland star, who is a boyhood Celtic fan, will take on Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with a chance for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to move into fourth spot in the Premier League table.
Putting aside the last few results, Ange Postecoglou has made an outstanding start to life at Spurs, with John McGinn stating that they are ‘exciting’ to watch.
The Villa star added that he spoke to the Celtic players and his brothers about Ange Postecoglou and they ‘spoke very highly of him’, as he told The Daily Mail.
When Ange walked through the doors at Parkhead, the team had just watched then-Steven Gerrard’s Rangers steamroll to the Premiership title.
And despite an iffy start, when Celtic’s new man in the dugout got going, that’s when fans got to see what he was all about.
But with many down south seemingly dismissing Ange Postecoglou’s work at Celtic because the Scottish League is a ‘Pub League’, it was something that was well and truly dismissed by McGinn.
McGinn praises Postecoglou
“When he was appointed Spurs manager I heard the same old nonsense us Scottish people hear down here: ‘Oh he’s only done well up there because it’s a pub league’, says McGinn.
“But I had spoken to the Celtic players and my brothers who had played against his teams and they spoke very highly of him.
“Tottenham are exciting to watch. Their home game with Chelsea recently was the wildest 100 minutes of football I’ve ever seen
“I have never met their manager but I only hear good things about him. It’s similar to the way the manager is thought of here (Unai Emery). They have a clear identity of how they want to play and they stick by it.”

Postecoglou’s style of play
Given that Postecoglou is now the manager of a Premier League team, he is working on a bigger stage, so there is more scrutiny on what he is doing.
And he is getting rave reviews left, right and centre for his work.
All of which won’t surprise the Celtic faithful because that forward-thinking style was there for all to see during his time in Glasgow.
It makes him one of the most exciting managers in Europe and the Bhoys rightfully enjoyed Postecoglou winning the Treble in fine style last season.
