John McGinn has been praising Celtic skipper Scott Brown. The Aston Villa midfielder believes that Scotland will badly miss the Hoops midfielder, who has retired from international duty.
“I think it’s really hard to replace what Scott Brown brought to Scotland” he told the Scottish Sun.
“He was one of a kind and there aren’t too many players like Broony. But for me, the more you try and replicate him, the more difficult it becomes.”

Bittersweet comments
McGinn’s comments will be bittersweet for Celtic fans. They will agree with what the player has to say. But they will also reflect on what might have been.

McGinn was, as everyone knows, a transfer target for Celtic in the summer. The Hoops had three bids rejected by Hibernian for the player.
Excellent performer

The midfielder eventually signed a four-year deal at Aston Villa. McGinn has been excellent for Villa this season, scoring six goals in 37 appearances.
McGinn would no doubt have thrived at Celtic. He could well have formed a partnership with Brown. The Hoops have managed to prosper without McGinn, as Ryan Christie has stepped up to the plate.
But McGinn’s praise of Brown does give a glimpse into what could have been at Celtic this season. The midfielder could have been a key man in Celtic’s bid to win eight in a row. But it was not to be.
