After Celtic dumped Hibs out of the League Cup on Sunday, Brendan Rodgers’ team was drawn in the quarter-final at home against Falkirk.

The Championship club proved that they will be no pushovers after defeating Hearts 2-0 to book their place in the last eight of the competition and an away tie at Celtic Park.

After the draw, Brendan Rodgers was full of compliments for The Bairns’ manager, John McGlynn, after working with him during his first spell at Celtic Park.

After the draw was made, Rodgers told Premier Sports, “He is one of the nicest guys I have ever met in my life. He worked so hard for me when he was here (at Celtic) and was a great staff member.

“He is an amazing guy. He went and done a fantastic job at Raith and now you are seeing him do fantastically well with Falkirk.

“I look forward to seeing him and we will need to be at our best in the next round.”

McGlynn ‘humbled’ by Celtic boss

At the time, McGlynn worked at Celtic as part of the recruitment team and now, as boss of Falkirk, he must now plot a path on how to knock his old club out of the competition.

And whilst there will be no holding back in the dugout when the time comes, McGlynn has shared how he was humbled after hearing Rodgers’ compliments at the weekend.

McGlynn told the Daily Record [print edition page 45], “I was at Celtic and worked under Brendan.

“I thought what he said on Sunday was so nice. It was very humbling.

“It was a good time to work at Celtic – they were invincibles in one of those years, winning everything basically. I was doing the opposition analysis and enjoyed every minute of it.

“It will be nice to go back to Celtic Park with Brendan in charge. It will be a big occasion and hopefully, we can do ourselves justice.

“It’s a difficult game, away to Celtic. If we had got them at home, it would have boosted our chances.”

Celtic will face Falkirk in the weekend of September 21st but, as yet, not specific kick-off time has been pencilled in.

The League Cup is the only trophy that alluded Rodgers last season after Kilmarnock knocked Celtic out in the fourth round at Rugby Park.

If the Parkhead boss can negotiate this tie then he will be one step closer to winning the third treble of his combined Celtic career.
