Johnny Kenny reveals his family will snub Hearts vs Celtic for GAA final

Johnny Kenny could lead the line for Celtic without his family there to watch against Hearts this weekend.

Kenny is expected to start up front after Kelechi Iheanacho was substituted against Sturm Graz due to injury.

The forward is one of the Celtic players with the fewest minutes played this season, but one person’s loss is another’s opportunity.

It may be a top of the table clash in the Scottish Premiership, but there is another big occasion for the Kenny family.

Celtic star’s brothers to appear in GAA final

While Kenny will hope to be the difference maker in Edinburgh, his brothers will be in action in the Sligo Club Championship Gaelic football final.

Ciaran, Niall and Patrick will all feature for Shamrock Gaels as they bid to end their 33-year wait to win the championship against Coolera-Strandhill.

Kenny was able to fly home for the first meeting, which ended in a draw to result in a replay, and will be watching from afar.

“My family won’t be over this Sunday. My brothers have a Gaelic final for the first time in 33 years, so they’re on the top of the list this weekend!” he told the Daily Record.

“I was there two weeks ago, but it ended a draw so this is now a replay. Look, I can’t wait for Tynecastle this Sunday so I wouldn’t change that.

“But it’s on at three o’clock so hopefully I’ll watch it on the bus home – with two positive results. The support for me from back home is like any small village in Ireland.”

Johnny Kenny sets challenge for Celtic teammates at Hearts

Sunday’s fixture is the most anticipated of the season and could also be a make or break for the Hoops too.

Hugh Keevins is tipping Hearts to beat Celtic, but Kenny insists that if the ‘real Celtic’ turn up, then three points will come back to Parkhead.

“They’re a brilliant team, brilliant manager,” the Republic of Ireland international added.

“We just need to go there and bring the real Celtic. It’s a massive game so early in the season. If we win it’s down to two points. We need to go and take the game to them.
