Celtic loanee Johnny Kenny continues to be a pivotal figure for Shamrock Rovers despite their League of Ireland campaign coming to an end last week.

Despite scoring on the final day against Waterford, the Irishman’s strike wasn’t enough to claim a fifth title in a row, with Damien Duff’s Shelbourne claiming their first top-flight crown since 2006.

Nevertheless, Johnny Kenny’s loan spell at Shamrock Rovers has been a quantifiable success as he continues to show why the Bhoys brought him to Parkhead from Sligo Rovers in 2022.

Achieving a career ambition, Kenny played and scored for the other Hoops in the Europa Conference League action against Larne last month, illustrating that his excellent form isn’t just restricted to domestic matters in Ireland.

Now, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has gone one at Tallaght Stadium, adding further weight to his positive loan spell in Dublin.

Celtic loanee Johnny Kenny scores again in Conference League

Last night, Shamrock Rovers came from behind to defeat Cymru Premier outfit The New Saints 2-1 in the Europa Conference League, with Kenny sending Ireland’s most successful club on their way to a vital triumph.

Latching on to a precise through ball, the Celtic loanee steadied himself before firing a powerful strike past Connor Roberts, who was beaten all ends up in the visiting goalmouth.

Dylan Watts struck what proved to be the decisive goal on 38 minutes, cancelling out Jordan Roberts’ opener in a tight contest at Tallaght Stadium.

Now, Rovers sit above the likes of Fiorentina, Copenhagen and Panathinaikos in the group stage table and are on course to advance to the next phase.

Johnny Kenny could be a striker solution for Celtic

Previously, 67 Hail Hail spoke about how Kenny could be a third-man striker option for Celtic. With his contract at Parkhead set to run until 2026, could it be a solution worth exploring for Brendan Rodgers?

15 goals and three assists in 37 appearances makes for impressive reading, but it remains to be seen whether the Bhoys feel the loanee has a future in Glasgow.

Should they decide to move him on permanently, there will be no shortage of suitors keen to land his services. However, only time will tell on that front.
