Celtic youngster Jonathan Afolabi has made an exciting impact for Dundee just hours after his loan from the Bhoys was confirmed.

The 20-year-old has scored in a friendly against Peterhead, having been thrown into the team at short notice.

It was, according to the club, a ‘beauty’.

It comes as more news emerged about his loan switch.

In a pleasing twist, it seems he’s extended his contract at Celtic prior to signing up at Dens Park, as reported by Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has committed his future at the Bhoys until the summer of 2023.

It’s a sign that despite slow progress in terms of the first-team at Celtic, Afolabi is rated by the coaching team and could have a big future at the club.

He now has a massive opportunity to impress in the Scottish Championship, with Dundee one of the fancied teams to be pushing for promotion.

Afolabi showed promise in the division last season with Dunfermline, netting twice and assisting another in six appearances before the curtailment of the Scottish leagues.

It’d be fantastic to see him on the goal trail in competitive action next month when Dundee start their season for real.

In other news, former Celtic academy talent Aaron Hickey got a standing ovation on his Serie A debut last night.
