Jonjoe Kenny is fully focused on impressing for Celtic between now and his return to Everton, stating his goal as a footballer is not sitting on the bench but getting on the park.

Kenny was the player on press conference duty for the club today ahead of tomorrow’s match against Motherwell at Celtic Park.

Inevitably reporters tried to get a steer on what this loan move means for Kenny’s career both at Everton and Celtic.

The right-back was asked by one journalist about what Carlo Ancelotti has told him about his Toffees future and how this loan fits into that.

Kenny said [Celtic YouTube]: “Not much really. Just at the time I wasn’t playing and that’s football. Me, as a footballer and as a person, I want to play as much as possible.

“I’m not a person who wants to be sitting on the bench and waiting around, I want to be playing. I got this opportunity and Everton were fantastic for me to let me come out and play so I really appreciate that from them.”

The former England youth international was then asked if he hoped consistent action at Celtic would help him push into the Everton first-team next season.

Kenny replied: “I haven’t really thought too far ahead. I just want to enjoy my time here and enjoy playing football and just take it game by game to see where that takes me.”

Celtic can offer Jonjoe Kenny something Everton can’t

Pretty diplomatic stuff from the 23-year-old then, as you’d expect.

However, it’s pretty clear he is not content just being an Everton squad member and needs to be playing most weeks to have fulfilment.

That’s something Celtic can offer him if he continues to perform as he did away to Kilmarnock on Tuesday night.

Neil Lennon has already made it clear he’d fancy a longer Kenny stay at the Bhoys if his current loan spell turns out well.

Kenny’s first match at Celtic Park will likely come tomorrow against the Steelmen.

In other news, Darren Moore has been talking up promising Celtic teenager Scott Robertson.
