Jonny Hayes and Mikael Lustig may not be teammates for too much longer, but the pair are certainly going out on a high judging by a recent Instagram comment.
The Irishman leapt to the defence of the Swede after he was trolled by a Rangers supporting fan page. The page replied to Lustig’s original post featuring a video of his favourite Celtic moments.
That reply prompted Celtic winger Hayes to stand up for his teammate and shoot down the Gers fan with great aplomb.
A great presence
The reply shows how well the Swede is thought of in the dressing room. The defender received positive comments from the likes of Scott Brown, Kieran Tierney and Nir Bitton while international teammates Victor Lindelöf and John Guidetti also showed their appreciation.
If he does move on then he’ll be greatly missed as a presence in the changing room.
The Lustig myth
There seems to be some kind of myth coming from the other side of Glasgow that Lustig has been an awful Celtic player. The full-back has been a consistent performer for the club in his seven-and-a-half years. He’s featured 276 times for the club, scoring 21 goals.
However, his greatest legacy will be the trophies he helped the club win. Lustig was a part of every one of Celtic’s eight Premiership titles between 2012 and 2019. He also played his part in eight cup wins – four in each tournament.
Meanwhile, Rangers last major honour was in 2011 – six months before Lustig even joined the club.
