Jonny Hayes can be pleased despite truncated derby debut

Celtic winger Jonny Hayes can be pleased with his first experience of a Glasgow derby. Despite coming off at half-time, Hayes played reasonably well in the 2-1 win for the Hoops.

Performed better than his replacement

He put in a few dangerous inviting which no Celtic player was able to get on the end of. He probably performed better than what his replacement, Scott Sinclair, did on the day.

Overall though, it was a huge vote of confidence from Neil Lennon in the player. He could have chosen the likes of Oliver Burke or Sinclair to start the game, but elected for Hayes. You have to say that Hayes didn’t let the side down either.

Chance to hold down a place in the team

With the raft of injuries the Hoops currently have, Hayes has a chance to hold down a place in the team between now and the end of the season.

Hayes will also be hoping that Neil Lennon is appointed as Hoops manager on a permanent basis. Lennon obviously thinks highly of the player if he started him in one of the biggest domestic games of the season.

It remains to be seen how long Hayes and Lennon will be at Celtic. Both could move on in the summer. But for the moment, both could play a key role in determining if Celtic will clinch a treble.
