Jonny Hayes has revealed that the Celtic players were inspired by comments made by Neil Lennon before the recent 2-0 win at Ibrox.

The Hoops utility man has disclosed that Lennon laid down a blueprint on how to win at the home of Celtic’s biggest rivals in the dressing room before kick-off.

“The manager said we had set a mark and a stamp on the game early” Hayes said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“Don’t give away any early goals or silly chances, and we managed to do that.”

The players certainly paid attention to the manager’s comments. The Hoops were in control throughout the match, and limited Rangers to very few chances.

As for Hayes, his goal which clinched victory for the Hoops has to go down as the highlight of his Hoops career so far.

He has rarely featured for the Hoops this season. However, Neil Lennon’s decision to bring Hayes on for Mikey Johnston was an inspired one.

He started and finished the move which put the Hoops 2-0 up. It showed that even though he has been a bit-part player this season, Hayes can still be valuable for the Hoops when called upon.

He can be delighted with his contribution to Celtic’s victory. Hayes helped Celtic pull off a famous win at the home of their biggest rivals. For that alone he will be fondly remembered by the Hoops support.
