Former Celtic cult hero Jorge Cadete has called for Leigh Griffiths to get the nod to start against Rangers in Sunday’s Glasgow derby, the Scottish Sun reports.

Griffiths has been in excellent form recently, scoring a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-0 win over St Mirren. Now, Cadete has made a plea for Neil Lennon to start the in-form attacker against Rangers for the first time this season.

“Celtic will attack and Leigh Griffiths gives them a better chance to win against Rangers” Cadete said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I would like to see him play”

“I would like to see him play alongside Odsonne Edouard up front and I think that’s what Neil will do. Griffiths has the personality to play for Celtic. He can handle the pressure of big games” Cadete concluded.

Cadete seems very confident that the Hoops will set out to attack their Glasgow rivals. However, that might not be the case.

Neil Lennon might decide to play with caution, and only start with one striker, which would be Odsonne Edouard.

However, if it is to be a two-man strike force, then no doubt Griffiths will get the nod to start. Interestingly, Neil Lennon has yet to start with two strikers against Rangers this season.

The emergence of the Griffiths and Edouard partnership came in the wake of the last meeting between the teams.

Will manager throw caution to the wind?

With the Hoops having a comfortable 13 point lead at the top of the Premiership, this fixture would seem like an ideal one to throw caution to the wind, but it is unlikely Lennon will agree with that.

He will not want to give Rangers any hope it all when it comes to the title race, which might mean playing cautiously, as it should be remembered that a draw would be a decent result for the Hoops.

It is interesting to see that Cadete rates Griffiths highly, as the Portuguese striker was a fine goalscorer in his day for the Hoops.

They are different types of players, but both knew how to find the back of the net, which is the most important thing.
