It’s hard to believe that it’s 15 years to the day when Celtic legend, Tommy Burns passed away. Burns is an icon at Celtic where he enjoyed success both as a player and a manager.
Sadly, Tommy passed away aged just 51-years-old after being diagnosed with skin cancer just two years earlier and it is a loss that hit the Celtic Family hard.
And today, Celtic paid tribute to the legendary former player and manager with a touching tribute on Instagram.
The post garnered thousands of likes within hours and one of Tommy’s former signings, Jorge Cadete paid tribute to his gaffer in the replies.
Cadete said in the comments, “God bless you my dear friend Tommy Burns, I keep you in my earth and memories. Thank you for all 💚💚💚💚🍀”. The former Celtic star clearly still holds Tommy dear to his heart.
Cadete was signed by Tommy in 1996 and formed a part of the famous Three Amigos alongside Pierre van Hooijdonk and Paolo Di Canio.
Celtic fans have fondly remembered the trio as the best front three they had seen in years and between them they terrorised Scottish defences.

During Tommy’s tenure as manager, it is a long-held view amongst the Celtic fans that it was during that era we witnessed some of the most exciting and attacking football from a Celtic side since the days of Jock Stein.
Tommy’s team of 1996 only lost one league game that season but it was the 11 draws that cost us the league title and the chance to stop Rangers ten in a row.
He did, however, end Celtic’s barren run without a trophy in 1995 when he picked up the Scottish Cup alongside captain, Paul McStay.
Tommy was Mr Celtic. He loved the club and the fans dearly. And even to this day, he is still missed by the Celtic Family.
