Ecuadorian youngster Jose Cifuentes says he could move to Celtic this summer. The 20-year-old, who currently plays for America De Quito in his homeland, has attracted interest after impressing for Ecuador at the Under-20s World Cup.

The creative midfielder is set to make the move to Europe but he doesn’t yet know where. However, he seems to have a pretty good idea with the Scottish Sun reporting some quotes that suggest Celtic have a good chance of acquiring him.

Cifuentes says: “My aim is to play in Europe. I don’t know which club I will sign for yet – either Manchester City or Celtic.

“Nothing has been decided yet.

“I deserve my opportunity to play in Europe, it’s where I have to be. And my mentality is that I am going to be in Europe for a long time.”

Could Cifuentes be another Manchester City/Celtic experiment?

The chat around Cifuentes seems a little bizarre from the outside looking in. Other than the odd report, there has been very little discussion about the Ecuadorian playmaker.

However, he seems pretty sure that he’s going to be moving to Britain this summer and the fact he mentioned Celtic suggests he has a rough idea of what’s going to happen.

Celtic and Manchester City have forged a positive relationship in recent years with the likes of Daniel Arzani, Patrick Roberts and Jason Denayer all coming to Parkhead on loan.

You wonder if a similar deal is going to happen with Cifuentes. City may take a punt on the youngster and loan him out to Celtic, much like they have done with Arzani. If he turns into a superstar then they’ll take him back – otherwise they’ll just write it off.

It’s one to watch for sure.
