A reported Celtic transfer target has not ruled out moving to the Scottish champions. Jose Cifuentes has admitted that a move to Scotland would be ‘interesting’ to him.
Neil Lennon admitted to the Scottish Sun last month that the Hoops were interested in signing the player.
The player’s future is currently in a bit of confusion, as his club, CD Amercia de Quito, recently rejected a bid of around £2 million for the player from Manchester City.
According to Mediotiempo, Cifuentes was ‘frustrated’ that the move to the Premier League champions was rejected.
Now he has admitted that a move to Scotland isn’t out of the question.
“I want to be the protagonist”
“It would be very interesting to play there, in the Scottish league. I imagine that they are a good team – and I want to be the protagonist in a lot of competitions” the player said, as reported by FootballScotland.
Interestingly, the FootballScotland report claims that Quito’s chairman turned down Cifuentes’ move to Manchester City as the player would have been sent out on loan.
English champions may still be keen on player
So it looks as if the player is keen to make the move to Celtic. However, that could depend on a few things. Manchester City could make another move for the player before the end of the English transfer deadline.
That is on Thursday. Therefore, any move would be done very quickly. There is also the fact that at the moment, Celtic are focused on making the Champions League group stages.
Therefore, any move for the player could depend on the Hoops’ progress in Europe. It a good sign that the player seems eager to move to Celtic. However, it might be a few weeks yet before we know if the Hoops intend to make a move for the player.
