Josip Juranovic speaks to Croatian media about settling in at Celtic
Celtic defender Josip Juranovic has been talking up his move to Parkhead in an interview with Croatian media.
The international right-back has made a positive impression since making his summer move from Legia Warsaw. That’s despite playing out of position too considering Ange Postecoglou has regularly thrown him over to left-back.
Juranovic remains a constant in the Celtic starting XI, and will be looking to continue his positive momentum with a big week with the Croatian national team.
And as he spoke about his time in Glasgow, he also addressed what the Rangers fans do when they see him on the street.
As quoted by Croatian outlet HRT Sport, Juranovic said: “I went to Celtic at the right time and everything worked out for me. I went from Legia to a big club and I am happy with Celtic.
“I’ve been with Born (Barišić) once since I came. People recognize me, but when Rangers fans see me, they start shouting “Glasgow Rangers”. But it’s all football.
“All of us who play football want to play in front of full stadiums, as it will be in Split, but now Malta is important. The keys are team spirit, patience and playing fast.”
Josip Juranovic and the curious case of his Celtic position
You have to take into account just how impressive Josip has been considering he’s been operating on his unnatural side. If it was down to the player, he would likely be bombing down the right for the Hoops instead of Anthony Ralston.
Unfortunately, the latter is undroppable at the moment. And that actually throws up an issue for Ange Postecoglou. Whilst Juranovic has been impressive enough, he would be even more dominant if he was playing in his favoured position. We aren’t getting the best out of him.
And it also probably says something about the left-backs we currently have that they also can’t get a game over the Croat. We have 3 alternatives who can play in the position yet not one of them are as good as a player who would likely rather be playing on the other side.
Not that there’s anything Juranovic can do about that. He simply needs to do the job being asked of him by the manager. But it remains to be seen if Postecoglou has any plans to eventually play him in his normal right-back role.
For now, Celtic fans are simply enjoying what Josip is producing in any case. He can feel pleased with how his first couple of months in Glasgow have gone.
Even so, you still feel there’s plenty more to come from him.
