Josip Juranovic's classy remarks on Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi
Celtic defender Josip Juranovic has bigged up the return of Kyogo Furuhashi and told the media that “everyone loves him” at Lennoxtown.
Kyogo ended a 4-month absence from games on Saturday as he was given the final 20 minutes or so of Celtic’s 7-0 rout against St Johnstone. The result ensured that Celtic kept their 6-point lead at the top of the Premiership with only 5 fixtures remaining.
Yet despite the 7 goals, the highlight for supporters was just seeing Kyogo back available for selection once again. The Japanese international got the biggest cheer of the day both when he came on and when he touched the ball for the first time.
But it’s not just the supporters who are buzzing to see him back either. As quoted by the Daily Record, the entire squad is delighted as Jura talked up the former Vissel Kobe man:
“We have boys who can come on and make the difference for us. There is such strength and depth in the team. Even in training every day, the boys have to be at their best as we are fighting to get a place in the team. Because of that it helps the team reach high standards.
“Kyogo is back. He is a great person and you can see everyone loves him here. He is an amazing player and he could be so important for us for the rest of the season. I don’t want to put pressure on him but we know he, like every player, will give everything for the club.
“If we do that then we will be successful. We are going game by game and we are only thinking about the three points. The most important thing is the next game.”
Kyogo Furuhashi is a popular figure both inside and outside the Celtic dressing room
It undoubtedly helps that he’s a quality player of course. However, Kyogo is clearly a much-adored figure amongst the players and the supporters.
Having him back in the fold couldn’t have come at a better time. After all, with Giorgos Giakoumakis picking up an injury that’s certainly worrying, it’s vital we have Kyogo fit between now and the summer.
It gives Celtic real strength in depth. And even if Kyogo has to miss the next couple of starting line-ups, Celtic still have a high-quality solution there in Daizen Maeda. That would simply mean Liel Abada on the right and Jota on the left. Hardly a disaster and that’s with both of our first choice strikers out.
Hopefully, that’s not something we’ll see regularly between now and the end of the season of course. We all hope that Kyogo will remain fit and keep making an impact.
But just the fact Josip is bringing it up here shows how much it means to the rest of the players. There will be an excitement even amongst them that their number 1 striker is back in the fold. And he couldn’t be joining with confidence any higher.
Celtic deserve immense credit for how they’ve dealt with his absence. But now, it’s time for Kyogo to take his spot once more as our top man.
