The 21st century has presented Celtic fans with some fine players to salivate over and Jota would be right up there amid his impact while in Glasgow.

Brought in under Ange Postecoglou, the Portuguese winger became an icon among supporters, registering 28 goals and 26 assists in 83 appearances for the Bhoys.

After two wonderful years at the club, Celtic sold Jota to Al-Ittihad for £25 million, which remains the second-most expensive fee they have claimed for a player after Matt O’Riley’s £30 million move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Spending a year in Saudi Arabia, Rennes paid €8 million (£6.6 million) for Jota in the summer, bringing the curtain down on a mixed spell in the Middle East for the Benfica academy graduate.

Most revered for his time at Celtic, Jota has now shed some brilliant insight on why his time in Scotland is something he will never forget.

Speaking to Ouest France, Jota indicated he will always be grateful for his ‘incredible’ time at Celtic and stated the famous ‘Jota on the Wing’ chant while at Parkhead is something that will stick with him forever.

He explained: “You had to be in Glasgow at that moment to feel it. Playing at Celtic Park, feeling the love of the fans, having the chance to be coached by an incredible coach (Ange Postecoglou) in a group where everything turned out well. You have to thank everyone for what happened there.”

“I hope one day to be able to show my children what it was like, all the love I received. I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.”

Later, he added when the famous chant celebrating his exploits out wide came up in conversation: “It touched me because I didn’t expect it. When they started singing it, it was a very special moment.”

Even if his stay was relatively short, Jota cemented himself as an iconic Celtic figure and brought a flair and excitement on the flank that got supporters off their seats.

Moreover, he also immersed himself in the culture of the club from day one, embracing the adulation his adoring public gave him from the stands.

While he is someone who will probably be missed forever at Celtic Park, everyone will wish him well in his new beginning at Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.
