Jota has spoken of the pride he feels after signing for Celtic on loan from Benfica tonight.

The Portuguese youngster arrives for a year-long temporary stint. However, the Hoops have confirmed that the club has an option to buy the player.

The 22-year-old is an 18-time capped Portugal under-21 international, and arrives after a spell with La Liga side Real Valladolid last season.

The signing marks Celtic’s 11th of the summer and second of deadline day. And speaking via the official club website, Jota was evidently delighted:

“I am very happy to join such an historic and exciting team as Celtic. Having played in Portugal and Spain, everyone knows that Celtic is a huge name across Europe and a club with real heart and soul.

“It will be a pleasure and an honour to fight for this club and I can’t wait to feel the atmosphere from our supporters at Paradise. I know the manager wants us to play fast, attacking football, the way it should be played and, I can’t wait to play my part in this.

“I will work hard to do all I can to make the fans happy and enjoy some good times together.”

Jota delighted to join up with Celtic and Ange Postecoglou

It appears as though Celtic fans are seeing first hand the influence of Postecoglou’s playing style.

After all, would we have been able to secure a young Portuguese talent of this calibre playing the way we were last season? It’s clear that the Benfica man is attracted to the Postecoglou project.

The 22-year-old was anything but an outcast in Lisbon. Jota played 34 times for Benfica and 47 for Benfica B [Transfermarkt]. This isn’t a player with no experience having sampled top-flight football in Portugal and Spain.

Interestingly, Jota also comes with plenty of versatility. He’s capable of featuring down either flank, but is predominantly a left-winger. It appears as though Celtic have found the Mohamed Elyounoussi replacement they were looking for.

It marks another big addition for Postecoglou, whose squad is shaping up nicely. There’s no confirmation as of yet, but this is looking like being the Hoops’ final addition of the window.

And there will certainly be plenty of excitement surrounding the player and what he could bring to the table.
