Journalist explains Aurelio Buta to Celtic holdup

Daily Record journalist Scott Burns has stated that Aurelio Buta to Celtic is being held up due to personal terms.

News on Celtic’s pursuit of Buta has gone quiet over the last several days. That’s despite the fact it was reported in Belgium last week that an agreement had been completed [Walfoot].

And Burns has now explained what the hold-up is with the Hoops having already agreed terms with Royal Antwerp over a move for the right-back. Instead, it’s the player wages that have been the stumbling block

In recent weeks, Celtic have been left without any reliable options in the right-back position. Anthony Ralston has featured in all three of the club’s competitive games.

Celtic’s only other option is Lee O’Connor. However, the former Man Utd man has been nowhere near the matchday squads.

Aurelio Buta to Celtic holdup is unacceptable

If what Burns is reporting is true, this would be unacceptable from a Celtic perspective. Especially if the full-back isn’t looking for big money either.

Celtic have continued to stall and stall when it comes to covering our priority positions. So much so that it’s now cost us UEFA Champions League football this season. You could also argue it’s led to us being three points behind Rangers in the Premiership too.

Therefore, fans are unlikely to react too kindly to the idea of us stalling over Buta. We’re talking about a player with European experience under his belt. Someone who can come in and make an instant impact.

Celtic look almost certain to go into our Europa League qualifier against Jablonec without a signing in the right-back position. Remember, we’ve known we would need recruits in that position since January.

The club will need to come to a resolution here one way or another. And if it isn’t the Antwerp man we end up going for, there needs to be other options on speed dial.
