Former Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has taken to Twitter this weekend to send a message of congratulations to his ex-teammates and Scotland after qualifying for the European Championships.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this week, you’ll know that Scotland overcame Serbia on Thursday night to secure a place at a major tournament for the first time since 1998.

Ryan Christie, Leigh Griffiths and Callum McGregor were amongst the heroes – all three playing some sort of role in the penalties victory.

Simunovic said: “I would like to congratulate Scotland for qualifying for Euro 2020. Big congrats to my ex-teammates at Celtic. Been there for five years and I know what this means for everyone.”

Simunovic left Celtic at the end of last season despite the club holding another year’s option on his contract.

He has yet to find a new club, and in the replies to his latest tweet, it’s clear that some Bhoys supporters would love to see the big defender back at Paradise.

Although he made few high-profile errors during his time at Celtic, for the most part, he was a reliable, physical presence at the heart of the defence – known for his tough tackling.

Fitness and injury issues also took their toll over the years but would he be playing any worse than Shane Duffy is right now?

I very much doubt that.
