Celtic are reportedly closing in on a £2.5m deal for Legia Warsaw right-back Josip Juranovic [Sky Sports].

And if the move is to go ahead at that fee, the club will have splashed out as much as over £16m this summer with more surely still to be spent.

A few weeks ago, we spoke about how the sale of Kristoffer Ajer had taken Celtic to over £30m in transfer sales since January. The likes of Jeremie Frimpong and Patryk Klimala departed for decent fees. Jack Hendry, Hatem Elhamed, and Vakoun Bayo have also left the club permanently.

There was plenty of concern at the time of Ajer’s departure. We hadn’t secured the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Carl Starfelt, Joe Hart, or James McCarthy for example. Only Liel Abada was in the door.

But since then, Celtic have been putting their money to good use. So much so that a big portion of it has been reinvested back into the first-team.

Breaking down Celtic transfer fees

Abada’s £3.5m move was the first deal to be done [Scottish Sun]. That was then followed up with the £4m acquisition of Starfelt [Glasgow Times].

Furuhashi wasn’t far behind in a deal that cost Celtic £4.6m [Scottish Sun]. Hart may have been into the final year of his contract at Spurs, but Celtic still needed to hand out £1m to the EPL side to sign him [Sky Sports].

The Hoops didn’t have to pay anything to land McCarthy given he was a free transfer. However, these deals alone take Celtic to a total of £13.1m. Add on the potential Juranovic fee and we’re up to £15.6m

There was also a flurry of deals done for some youth projects in recent months that have to be added into the mix too. Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide, and Bosun Lawal all joined from English-based clubs.

Celtic were understood to have paid out £300k for Shaw [The Star], 200k for Urhoghide [The Scotsman], and £120k for Lawal [Glasgow Times]. That’s £620k in project signings to add to the expenditure.

All in, that totals a sum of £16.2m for the summer so far. Celtic may have been slow to get deals done at times, but it can’t be denied we’re splashing some cash.
