Celtic defender Stephen Welsh has been talking up the impact of Ange Postecoglou at the club and the way he has revolutionised training at Lennoxtown.

Postecoglou arrived in Scotland as a relative unknown. He quickly had to win hearts and minds not just in the Celtic support but in the dressing room too.

He set about that task with the tenacity and focus that has characterised his team throughout the season.

One of the defining moments for winning over fans came when the club posted training footage at the end of his first week at Lennoxtown.

And it seems those initial sessions had a huge impact on the squad in place too.

Welsh told The Scottish Sun this week: “The manager came in with a plan and a vision, and we bought into it very quickly. The level of training has got us to this position.

“The intensity of it, the pace, the quality over the last nine months, it’s been unbelievable. Just look at that video that came out early on, the ‘We don’t stop’ one. That’s exactly how it’s been from day one — during training, during games.

“It has definitely inspired me. That’s been the mentality for every single player since last July. We didn’t get off to the best start at home and in Europe. But I thought we showed good character with the players we had, before the manager brought in others.”

As we come to the closing stages of the season, it’s remarkable to think how far Postecoglou has taken this group.

Yes, we have had some blips along the way – most notably in Europe – but you can’t say you’re not surprised that we are in with the chance of a treble in mid-April.

For a first season, it’s been excellent stuff. If he’s inspired this sort of reaction from players in his first 12 months, surely the bond will only grow and in turn help performances?

In other news, VAR being presented as the saviour of Rangers can only be a good thing for Celtic.
