Italian report: Juventus manager Pirlo has eye on Celtic hero Edouard

Juventus are monitoring Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, according to reliable Italian outlet CalcioMercato.

The source has claimed that Juve boss Andrea Pirlo is looking to bolster his attacking options in January. The Old Lady’s Alvaro Morata has scored 12 in 22 competitive fixtures this season (WhoScored?). However, with Juventus languishing 4th in Serie A, Pirlo needs more goals from a team featuring Paolo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In their report, Calcio Mercato claimed that Edouard features on a list including Arkadiusz Milik, Memphis Depay, Krzysztof Piątek and Olivier Giroud. That’s elite company for a Celtic striker, and shows just how high his stock is across Europe.

A.C. Milan, Celtic’s recent European opponents, are also said to be interested (Glasgow Live).

Celtic have to hold on to Eddy – until the Summer

Following his gorgeous chipped penalty at the weekend, Edouard is a wanted man. A striker suited to the big occasions, we have no doubt that Eddy would be a success at a massive club like Juventus or A.C. Milan.

In a hypothetical scenario, Edouard receiving passes from the likes of Dybala, Ronaldo and Morata is a tantalising prospect. However, from a Celtic point of view, it’s better left for PES or FIFA. For now, at least.

Edouard hasn’t been as prolific as usual this season, but he’s still managed 5 in 11, and is valued at £13.5m (Transfermarkt). Having moved on Virgil van Dijk, Kieran Tierney and Victor Wanyama over recent seasons, Celtic understand the value of their players in the modern market.

Unless Celtic receive a bid of over £30m, you’d expect Peter Lawwell to say “no”. Edouard’s value to Lennon’s side is immense. Leigh Griffiths, Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala have all struggled to varying degrees.

Should Edouard leave without an adequate replacement, the 10 is unlikely. Celtic have been linked (by us) with a move for Bodø/Glimt’s Kasper Junker. After losing Jens Petter Hauge for only £4.5m (Football Italia), though, you can imagine the Norwegian Champions will A: be aware of Celtic’s resources and B: want a sizeable fee.
