Celtic’s reserve side were in action earlier on Tuesday, and the team that was picked was a strong one. The likes of Marian Shved, Ismaila Soro and Ewan Henderson all played for the Hoops.

However, the stand-out performer, as he has been so often at reserve/academy level, was the extremely talented Karamoko Dembele.

He got the Hoops off to a flying start, with both an assist and a goal in the opening 10 minutes of the game, which Celtic won 4-0.

Interestingly, Marian Shved also found the back of the net for the Hoops. However, it is really all about Dembele, who at an early age, looks to have a very bright future in the game.

Will be looking for more first-team football next season

The attacker, who turns 17 in four days, will presumably be looking to feature more often for the Hoops first-team next season.

He has made two appearances for the Hoops this season, one against Cluj in the Europa League in December and the other towards the end of a league win over Ross County in January.

However, Neil Lennon and his staff are doing the right thing with the player.

At the moment, it is better to give Dembele a cameo here and there rather than a run of games in the side. That could put too much pressure on the player.

The way Dembele is being coached and protected seems to be working well for the player. After all, he does seem to be playing well for the reserve and academy side.

Could feature once nine in a row is clinched

The next step though, is more first-team appearances. They may come this season, especially if the Hoops go on a deep run in the Europa League.

Possibly it could happen at the end of the season, once nine in a row has hopefully been clinched.

However, the best thing for the player at the moment is for him to spend time playing for the academy and reserve sides.

That will make Dembele a better player by the time he does become a first-team regular.
