Hassan Dembele, brother of Karamoko, started in a friendly for Celtic’s B team against Brentford on Wednesday.

After the curtain was drawn on their Lowland League season on Saturday, the young Hoops kept themselves busy by hosting Brentford at Barrowfield.

Benjamin Arthur was in attendance, along with first team assistant and former B team boss assistant Stephen McManus, as Celtic ran out 4-0 winners.

Both first-half goals were scored by 16-year-old striker Lucas Clearie.

Hassan Dembele starts for Celtic B in win over Brentford

Dembele, who can play anywhere off the right, started at right-back on the day.

He didn’t make an appearance for the B side in the Lowland League this season, instead appearing for the under-18 side.

He signed his first professional contract for the club last summer, along with Clearie and three others who started on the day: Keenan Daley, Joseph Haney and Emmanuel Obidiwe.

Haney, a left-back, appeared on the bench for Martin O’Neill’s side in the Scottish Cup against Auchinleck Talbot in January.

There is uncertainty over the B team’s future in the Lowland League. To date, we have no official confirmation from the club either way.

The senior Dembele brother drew millions and millions of views on social media before even making his first-team debut.

He made his debut for Celtic’s under-20 development squad aged just 13. Three years later, he made his first-team debut against Hearts, receiving a rapturous applause from the home crowd.

He received transfer interest from Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, and featuring alongside Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers in the England youth sides.

However, it didn’t happen for him at Glasgow. He made just ten senior appearances over the next four years, remaining unfavoured by managers and struggling with injury.

After a move to Brest he had a successful loan at Blackpool in 2023-24, earning a move to QPR in the Championship.

This season, he has one goal in 28 league appearances for the Loftus Road club.
