Kasper Schmeichel Celtic contract extension earns fan reaction, what goalkeeper said about deal

Kasper Schmeichel has put pen to paper on a Celtic contract extension, much to the delight of the fans.

The goalkeeper has become a solid player within the squad and is a key man in the changing room to boot.

Schmeichel, 38, joined the club on an initial one-year with an option there to extend it and Schmeichel recently claimed he wanted a new deal.

Now that has been confirmed that the Danish international would remain in Glasgow until at least 2026.

The support have been pleased with their stopper’s performances this campaign so far with 20 clean sheets in all competitions thus far from 34 outings.

And now they have had their say on the veteran signing his contract.

How fans have reacted to Kasper Schmeichel’s new Celtic deal

One commented: “Fantastic news, our great Dane,” as another wrote: “Great news, congratulations Kasper.”

One added: “Best keeper in the league,” as a fourth said: “That’s like a new signing”.

Other punters made it clear they were happy to nail down their custodian on fresh terms.

But when considering the January transfer window, they were still hoping to land new players to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

One said: “Yes yes, very cool. Now give us KT!”

Another wrote: “Great news, now announce a signing x”.

One commented: “Absolutely fantastic news now a certain left back and 1 or 2 wingers please Celtic”.

A fourth added: “Next one please Mr Celtic”, with a praying emoji.

Schmeichel was beaming on announcing the news of his stay and he told the club website how easy a decision it was for him to make.

He said: “I am really happy to extend my contract with the club.

“I have had a great welcome and have loved every minute so far at Celtic and I am really looking forward to the next period at such a great football club.

“We have already enjoyed success this season and everyone at the club is focused on delivering more.

“It has been great to be working again with the gaffer and to be part of such a brilliant dressing room, and I wanted to be a part of this going forward.

“As ever, we are all really together and fully focused on bringing our fans as much success as we can.”
