Kasper Schmeichel enjoyed his home debut for Celtic as he watched his teammates get to business for the first time ever in the SPFL.

The big Dane was brought in to replace Joe Hart but despite not having much to do, when called upon, Schmeichel did make a couple of timely saves.

Looking comfortable with the ball at his feet, there were no signs of nerves from the crowd whenever the ball was played back to Schmeichel and the goalkeeper himself, he looked very comfortable and assured when on the ball and it seemed to give his defenders a lot of confidence.

And now that he has experienced the Parkhead atmosphere for the first time, how did Scheichel enjoy his first experience in the SPFL in a Celtic jersey?

Schmeichel overwhelmed by Celtic Park welcome

Completing the full 90 minutes, Schmeichel looked over the moon with the win but most importantly, the Denmark international shares how he has been welcomed into the fold at Celtic.

Schmeichel said [Celtic TV], “Yeah it’s exceeded expectations.

“It’s been an incredible welcome I’ve got to say it’s been overwhelming and something that makes me very proud but it also also makes me very, very motivated to keep winning for this team.”

There is no doubt that the new Celtic number one will face much sterner tests than Derek McInnes’ side offered yesterday but one thing is certain, it does look like Brendan Rodgers has pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the signing of Schmeichel.

Schmeichel ‘buzzing’ after watching Celtic teammates

Despite not having a lot to do, Schmeichel was asked how he felt his Celtic teammates dealt with a Kilmarnock side who spent much of the game camped in their own half.

Delighted to have played in front of a packed Celtic Park, the big goalie was blown away with how his teammates took Kilmarnock apart in the 4-0 win.

Schmeichel continued, “Yeah they’re incredible if I could have a full season from them I’d be buzzing by that.

“The lads were brilliant. You said it before about preseason, we had a really good preseason, played some incredible stuff but today was a slightly different kind of game.

“But I thought we did really well. I thought we played the ball fast we had good combinations, good goals, everything was good.

“But they didn’t really create any chances and that’s because the boys, not just at the back, but from the front, defended. The counter press was good so a very good afternoon.”

Celtic got their domestic campaign off to a great start with a superb win over a team that gave them all sorts of problems last season.

Celtic have now scored four goals in four games after they carried on where they left off in their US Tour and it seems that Brendan Rodgers is looking for his side to be ruthless in the defence of their Scottish title.
