Celtic star Kasper Schmeichel isn’t the type of goalkeeper to let a mistake dent his confidence, and that is again apparent this weekend.
The Denmark goalkeeper was initially on top form away to Spain on Saturday night. He made two fine stops against Alvaro Morata to give his side hope of an away point in the Nations League.
However, despite a deflection from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on its route to goal, his failure to keep out Martin Zubimendi’s lashed shot from outside the box was noted as an error.
He should have done better with the effort, and Schmeichel received mixed reviews in the Danish press as a result.

After the match, the Bhoys hero didn’t shy away from his nation’s media and, in fact, offered an honest explanation for how the goal transpired.
Kasper Schmeichel reacts to Denmark error vs Spain
Schmeichel told Bold, “It’s one of those situations as a keeper. I didn’t see the ball to begin with. It hit Pierre and then I actually had to bet a little bit.
“It went to my left, and I didn’t manage to read the screw on the ball. And then I got a little too far over it. That’s life as a goalkeeper. That something like this can happen.
“Every time a goal is scored, I will always look back and see that there is something I could do better. If you’ve been in there, you know what it’s like. It doesn’t always look good on TV.
“Now I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s one of those situations where I’ll have to gamble a bit because it took that alignment and because I didn’t manage to read the screw.”
Celtic’s Schmeichel has the experience to overcome blip
At 37, Schmeichel has seen this all before. He’d have been as lauded as much as slated over the years; the ups and downs of football won’t bother him too much.
The fact is, Dortmund disaster aside, he’s had an excellent start to the season and is proving to be a capable replacement for Joe Hart, which is what matters from a Celtic perspective.

Everyone is expecting that to continue against Aberdeen at Celtic Park next weekend. It would be no surprise to see him bounce back with a strong international performance away to Switzerland, either.
Then there’s a big test away to Atalanta in the Champions League, which will give the Danish goalkeeper a chance to prove that the Dortmund match was an anomaly.
