These are important days for Kasper Schmeichel at Celtic as he gets to know his new teammates and acclimatises to the culture within the dressing room.

Signing last week on a one-year deal with the option of a second, Schmeichel watched Celtic rout DC United 4-0 on Saturday night in Washington.

He’s now joined the squad on their trip to a new training camp in North Carolina where Celtic take on Manchester City at Kenan Stadium.

Schmeichel is a charismatic and experienced individual. The expectation is he will be a key leader within the squad during his time in Glasgow.

Encouraging then that he is already making a positive impression on the players, including captain Callum McGregor.

Callum McGregor on Kasper Schmeichel’s arrival

Speaking to club outlet Celtic TV, the midfielder said: “He’s a vastly experienced goalkeeper, played at a really good level and he comes in with that authority and confidence about himself which is excellent. That’s what you want from your senior players.

“He’s going to be asked to play a big part, so it’s nice that he feels like he’s part of it already. I’ve had a couple of chats with him already. He’s a really nice guy, he wants to win, and he wants to do well.

“He’s saying all the right things. When you have football conversations there are certain things you want to hear and he’s certainly ticking all those boxes.

“It’s great for him to come in and feel so comfortable and hopefully we can build a really good, successful working relationship as well as a personal one as well.”

Kasper Schmeichel’s Celtic debut

The Manchester City game could come a bit quick for Schmeichel to feature considering not much training has taken place since Washington, with the travelling involved.

The match against Chelsea on Saturday night looks to be a more realistic debut environment for the Danish international, one week ahead of his first competitive match at home to Kilmarnock.

It’ll be great to see him installed in the starting eleven as he begins his journey on what everyone hopes is a strong Celtic career.
