Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel says his dream has “come true” after putting pen to paper on a one-year deal with Celtic.

The Bhoys officially announced the signing via a Thursday night statement as the shot-stopper makes his way to join up with his new teammates in the United States.

The 37-year-old played at Anderlecht last season but left upon the expiry of his contract and seeks a new challenge in the Scottish Premiership and UEFA Champions League.

He links up with his former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, who earlier expressed his delight at getting the deal over the line.

Posting on the social media site Instagram, Schmeichel noted his joy, stating: “A dream come true to sign for a club with such a rich legacy as Celtic. Excited to be part of this historic club and follow in the footsteps of giants. A new journey starts, can’t wait to get to work!”

Schmeichel has every chance of becoming a success on the pitch and very popular with supporters off of it.

Like his predecessor Joe Hart, he carries charisma and a strong media presence. He should be good value in interviews and – as long as he performs – that should make him a big hit with fans.

Celtic get strong work done in a key position

Celtic have moved to significantly strengthen the goalkeeping department this week, also bringing Viljami Sinisalo to the club from Aston Villa.

Schmeichel is expected to be Rodgers’ number one as Sinisalo develops and provides backup on a long-term contract.

The Dane is coming towards the end of his career but, like his friend and former teammate Hart, can go out on top with success at Celtic.
