The Shin Yamada to Celtic rumours have certainly taken the Kawasaki Frontale supporters by surprise.
The Japanese striker has been instrumental in bringing silverware to the J League side as he helped win the Japanese Cup [2023] and Japanese Super Cup [2024] over the last two seasons.
Celtic are said to be interested in Yamada after reports suggested the Parkhead club ‘watched’ the 25-year-old striker this summer.
And it’s the reaction of the Kawasaki Frontale fans that were interesting as the Celtic rumours swirled through their support in the early hours of the morning.

Kawasaki Frontale fans tell Celtic they are getting a ‘steal’ in Shin Yamada
Not many Celtic fans had heard of Yamada prior to this morning’s reports, but it appears that the striker is very popular amongst his own supporters as the Frontale fans made their feelings perfectly clear about the recent rumours.
Translated, @toma_futbol said, “If Yamada can be sold for 300 million [Yen] now, that’d be a steal.
“Ellison wants to do something about a line-up holding two key forwards who don’t tactically fit with Yamada that well.”
@ub3pqXg0VEcKwnC wasn’t happy and attempted to send a bizarre warning to Yamada and said, “I want to warn you before more people get hurt.
“If you want to make money, Celtic isn’t a bad choice. (Celtic has a track record of transfers to the Middle East).
“But if you want to succeed as a player, don’t go. Even players like Furuhashi, Maeda, and Hatate are struggling to secure transfers. To outshine them, you’d need to make a big impact in the Champions League, but the club prioritises the domestic league. Just don’t do it.”
What a weird take considering the three players he mentions have all won multiple trophies at Celtic and Kyogo just secured a £10m transfer to Rennes.
The next fan had a very interesting take and said, “If you’re picking Yamada, bring back Hatate”!
Not a chance.
@kansukesu1 believes this is a good move for Yamada and said, “If you want to move to Europe, you have to get to the long ball first and be able to keep the ball. But Celtic don’t play that way, so it might be a good place to move to.”
So it seems Yamada could easily fit into Brendan Rodgers’ style of play at Celtic.
And finally, one Frontale fan seemed to drop a name who Celtic should be looking at:
@Ebicharhan1214 stated, “Yamada is fine, but please, not Inamura, at least this year.”
Very interesting indeed.
Why Shin Yamada will not be a replacement for Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi
If this move for Yamada comes to fruition for Celtic, it’s important that fans realise that the Japanese striker is not of the same quality as Kyogo.
At 25, Yamada has made one international appearance for Japan at U23 level. The striker got just 27 minutes in a 3-1 friendly win against Cambodia.
At the same age, Kyogo has already been capped by the national senior squad and went on to make 23 appearances for Hajime Moriyasu’s side.
Whilst Yamada is clearly a talented player and loved by the fans at Frontale, Celtic supporters should allow him to become his own player without comparisons to Kyogo should his big Parkhead move happen.
