Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish is sensing that the current team fancy their chances of a league title this season, and a long unbeaten streak.

Ange Postecoglou has already taken the Bhoys on an intense journey this season. From having half a squad in June to now, there have been highs, lows, frustrations and successes along the way.

Now Dalglish thinks the Scottish Premiership title race is primed to go down to the wire, with Celtic giving Rangers as good as they get.

The former attacker also reckons that Joe Hart could well turn out to be the most important player of the entire season.

Writing in his Sunday Post column [28/11 print edition, Post Match supplement page 12], Dalglish said: “New Rangers manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, had his goalkeeper, Allan McGregor, to thank for securing the 2-0 win he was looking for. The Gers shot-stopper’s double save near the end of the game was outstanding.

“And so were Joe Hart’s in Leverkusen. It was breathtaking. It hammers home the importance of having a good goalkeeper. That’s just part of the reason why I feel that the SPFL title race will go down to the wire. It’s going to be very, very close.

“I think Celtic will fancy their chances, and maybe feel that they have already had their stickiest patch of the season, and can go on a long, undefeated run. The rest of Rangers’ campaign is a wee bit more of a guessing game.

“Indeed, it could well be that the destination of the title will come down to Mcgregor or Hart. It’s going to be very interesting.”

The only team that has been Celtic over the last couple of months is Bayer Leverkusen, so there’s every chance that the Bhoys unbeaten streak can continue domestically for some time yet.

There are some difficult matches ahead including a trip to Tannadice, a final at Hampden and a new year derby, but Dalglish is right – the players will fancy their chances of laying down a marker.

As we’ve said many times, if we can make it to the January transfer window in touching distance of the top of the table and with a major honour in the bag then things are looking golden for the Bhoys.
