Kenny Dalglish pins the blame on rivals as he calls for stance on Celtic to change

Kenny Dalglish wants an end to the derby hostilities that have kept out thousands of Celtic and Rangers fans from Ibrox and Celtic Park.

A few years ago, Rangers took the decision to reduce Celtic’s allocation for the derby, sticking Celtic supporters in a corner instead of giving them the full Broomloan stand.

Celtic, left with little choice, reciprocated.

It grew more absurd earlier this year when Rangers refused entry full stop, despite having the room to accommodate fans and delivering tickets to the Celtic office.

Dalglish has now called for the two clubs to get together and figure out a solution, recognising that it was Rangers who started this daftness.

Writing in his Sunday Post column [10/10 print edition, Post Match supplement, page 7], he said: “Of course I want to get back to the situation where Celtic had around 7,000 fans inside Ibrox, and Rangers had the same amount inside Celtic Park.

“For the visiting fans to be denied access to Old Firm games is far from ideal. The bottom line is that it takes away from the occasion.

“Rangers were the first club to implement this course of action, and Celtic followed suit. Both should get around the table and sort it out.

“Scottish football has a good product, and the Old Firm fixture is as good as anything, anywhere. This has gone on for too long and needs to be sorted out. So Celtic and Rangers, please bring an end to this unfortunate and unnecessary situation.”

67 Hail Hail understands Celtic are willing to put this issue to bed but it requires co-operation. Prior to the nonsense decision to lockout fans at Ibrox completely, the club were hopeful of figuring out a solution.

Ultimately though the ball is in Rangers’ court here. It’s them who seem to be continuing to push this situation. Let’s not forget it was them getting sick of being routinely outperformed in their own stadium that started this pettiness.

Some Celtic fans would rather not have them visit Paradise at all, but I can see Dalglish’s point here. It takes away from Scottish football’s biggest fixture not to have us at Ibrox and vice versa.
