Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish was left impressed by Hoops striker Odsonne Edouard during Thurday night’s 4-1 win away to AIK, The Sunday Post report (01/09 print edition, Post Match supplement page 11).

The Frenchman was in his usual excellent form during the UEFA Europa League play-off encounter, helping Celtic make the group stages of the competition.

It was his wonderful assist for James Forrest that sent the team on their way to victory.

His all-round performance didn’t go unnoticed by an attacking legend of the past at Celtic Park. Dalglish reckons Edouard was the stand-out on a magnificent night.

As quoted by The Sunday Post (01/09 print edition, Post Match supplement page 11), he said: “For the Hoops to go to Stockholm and beat AIK 4-1 was special, and Odsonne Edouard really caught my eye.

“His hold-up play was exceptional, and the way he linked with James Forrest for the opening goal was so pleasing on the eye.”

Our European catalyst

It’s clear by now that Edouard is operating consistently at a level above most of, if not all, the other players at Celtic and in the Scottish Premiership.

With five goals and five assists already this season, he’s well on his way to bettering his tally in both areas from last term. His importance to the team is approaching Moussa Dembele levels.

As we enter a tough Europa League group alongside Lazio, Rennes and Cluj, Edouard will no doubt be our catalyst for big performances and big results, just as he was last week at Celtic Park and on Thursday in Stockholm.

That environment is now his playground and where he can demonstrate his big gains as a performer over the last 18 months most.

Thankfully, it’s us who will reap the rewards of that personal progression.
