Kenny Miller buries his head in the sand with Michael Beale, Celtic and Rangers assessment

Kenny Miller doesn’t think the time is quite right for Rangers to sack Michael Beale and he reckons Celtic will be dropping ‘more points than usual’ in the near future.

Beale was booed out of Ibrox on Saturday after watching his team slip to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Aberdeen. It seems there are few Rangers fans who still want him in the building.

But Miller seems to be burying his head in the sand, suggesting that it is still too early to get rid of Beale. And part of his reasoning seems to seriously underrate Celtic at the moment.

The former striker said [BBC]: “It’s a long way back, even at this stage. But I don’t think it’s time up at this moment. There’s lot of work to be done – a lot of fans that need to be turned.

“The fans need to see improvements, particularly with some of the new signings, because there are real questions over whether these guys are going to be able to cut it”

“As Rangers manager, you need to be winning, putting silverware in the cabinet, and that’s something that could happen in the next couple of months if they get players back and improve. The coming weeks are really important. I don’t think there’s too much room for error.

“I believe Celtic will drop more points than they usually do because they’re not firing on all cylinders and they have their own injury problems. The difference at the moment is Celtic are getting the job done.”

In case you need a reminder, Rangers are already seven points behind the Bhoys and have lost three of their opening seven games – including against Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers’ side, meanwhile, remain undefeated in the league and have amassed 19 points from 21 available. That includes three tricky away matches against Rangers, Livingston and Motherwell.

There is simply no evidence that Celtic are about to start dropping more points. In fact, Celtic are one point ahead of where Ange Postecoglou’s side were after seven games last year.

The suggestion that Beale is well placed to close this gap on the Bhoys is ludicrous, frankly. That’s just wishful thinking.

In reality, the longer anyone across the city deludes themselves, the better it is for the Bhoys. It seems quite obvious they are going nowhere fast under Beale. A change always has the potential of reinvigorating them.

I’d suggest the majority of Rangers fans reckon it’s only a matter of time before he’s given a push out of the door. Miller is still clinging on to the potential of a fightback, but that is a less and less credible position with every passing game.
