The provisional Scotland squad has been hogging the headlines this week as Celtic prepare to take on Rangers in the Scottish Cup.
And it’s probably just as well. The big Glasgow Derby always comes with a tinge of nervousness for both the Celtic and Rangers fans and the Scotland chat has brought a welcome distraction to that.
Especially for Kenny Miller. The former Rangers striker was sounding really worried earlier this morning about his old team’s chances of beating Celtic.
As Miller contemplates another possible derby defeat, he takes the time to admit that he was shocked that one Celtic player hasn’t been involved in the international scene before now.
Miller hails ‘sensational’ James Forrest at Celtic
As Steve Clarke announced the inclusion of James Forrest in the Scotland squad, Miller said that the Celtic winger should have been included well before now.
Miller said [talkSPORT], “He has been sensational, to be honest, since he came back into the team. It’s been a strange situation for James Forrest and Celtic because I think it was only a few months ago that his manager admitted that he was, potentially, the best winger at the club.
“Yet he couldn’t find a way into the team past the other five guys that were getting in ahead of him.
“But he’s found his way back in the team in this last five or six games and he’s been sensational.
“He’s added goals, his experience has been vital at getting Celtic over the line. He’s quality. He’s just a top player. He really is.
“It’s surprising he’s not been involved in the national team for three years.
“It’s actually been surprising he’s not played more football for Celtic over the course of the season.

“If there is one thing for sure, he will definitely add value add value to that Scotland squad.”
With Steve Clarke yet to confirm who will be travelling to Germany for the Euros, if Forrest can put in the same performances in the upcoming friendlies for Scotland as he has done recently for Celtic, his place on the plane will be guaranteed.
The Celtic winger has a whole host of experience Clarke can call upon if needed and he should be given the opportunity to add to the 38 caps he already has to his name this summer.
