Kenny Miller gives brazen take on Wilfried Nancy to Celtic despite losing to him just months ago

There are plenty of opinions circling about Celtic’s pursuit of Wilfried Nancy.

It’s ultimately impossible to predict how his success will translate from Ohio to Glasgow. The change in environment is undeniable.

The Frenchman will be some change from the current interim manager Martin O’Neill, who is the most familiar of faces to Celtic fans.

Whether his 3-4-3 system works with a Celtic squad drilled for a different style of play also remains to be seen. Will he implement it right away?

It’s certainly a bold appointment by Dermot Desmond and Paul Tisdale. But they aren’t the only ones getting bold.

What Kenny Miller told Hugh Keevins about Celtic manager target Wilfried Nancy

Most of the Scottish media aren’t familiar with Nancy, but Kenny Miller is.

Assisting Ronny Deila at Atlanta United in MLS, he coached against his Columbus side just months ago, in a crazy game which Nancy won 5-4.

Hugh Keevins tapped into Miller’s knowledge for his column in the Daily Record, and Miller fears for Nancy, despite the experience of losing against him.

Keevins said: “Nancy now arrives with the Celtic support hoping, rather than expecting, that he can have the immediate and prolonged success that Postecoglou enjoyed when he came in from left-field via Australia and Japan.

“If there was one man whose opinion I would trust on this subject it would be my old friend and radio colleague Kenny Miller.

“He has just returned from a year-long stint in the MLS as assistant to former Celtic manager Ronny Deila at Atlanta United, where he has had experience of coming up against Columbus Crew.

“Kenny also has that unique insight into the Old Firm’s rivalry as a result of being one of the few people to play for both clubs.

“His reading of the situation is that Nancy is taking a step up that he may not be able to negotiate.

“It’s a perception that will be shared by many – especially if the detractors are also disturbed by the notion that you can’t get Postecoglou-lucky twice in such a short space of time. All of which remains to be seen in the fullness of time.”

Funny, funny stuff.

Kenny Miller’s coaching career

Miller’s coaching career has, in fairness, been quite bizarre.

He was surprisingly named player-manager of Livingston after they were promoted to the Premiership in 2018. This was a failed experiment that was over quite quickly.

He has since worked in Australia, the UAE and the USA assisting Deila, Mark Fotheringham and others.

How his take on Nancy ages, we’ll have to wait and see.
