Kieran McKenna is a realistic option for Celtic, 67 Hail Hail has learned.
On what seemed like a normal Monday evening, the shock news that Brendan Rodgers had resigned came from absolutely nowhere.
In the same statement, Celtic confirmed that Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney had agreed to take interim charge of the side.
Less than an hour later, Dermot Desmond launched a sensational attack on Rodgers with an incredibly detailed statement which blamed him for the club’s ‘toxic atmosphere’. It was a complete character assassination.
But the search for a new permanent Hoops boss is starting to grab the headlines, and 67 Hail Hail can reveal an update on one potential candidate and his availability.
Kieran McKenna a serious option for Celtic
Kieran McKenna was first mentioned in the frame on Tuesday morning, with Celtic getting to work on potential candidates for the permanent job.
Our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey has now revealed more on Celtic’s interest in the 39-year-old.

McKenna won’t come easily for the Hoops – he has been subject to interest from various Premier League clubs over the last couple of seasons.
He is also under a long-term contract at Portman Road which sees him receive one of the highest salaries in the country.
On Celtic’s interest in him, Graeme said: “Kieran McKenna is held in high regard and we have seen him interviewed by Chelsea and was also on the radar of Manchester United and Tottenham previously.
“Now we have been informed by sources that he is a realistic option for Celtic. Dermot Desmond is being informed of potential candidates and is doing his own due diligence and McKenna is one that work has been carried out on.
“McKenna would be a fascinating option for Celtic, the chance to work with one of the biggest clubs in Europe is a rare opportunity for someone at this point in his career.”
This one is moving quickly – McKenna would be an extremely exciting addition for the Hoops, given the number of admirers he has.
Kieran McKenna’s spell at Ipswich
McKenna worked his way up from youth coaching to senior roles in the academy at Tottenham and Manchester United, before being handed the Ipswich job.
Taking over from Paul Lambert in League One, he guided the Tractor Boys to promotion to the Championship, before completing sensational back-to-back promotions to take them to the Premier League.
Arriving in the top-flight ahead of schedule, it was a difficult season in the Premier League and they were relegated.
They are now sat in 12th place in the Championship, having experienced a high turnover of players in the summer.
