Scotland’s exit from the World Cup has placed focus on Steve Clarke and the players he trusted during his seven-year reign as the national boss.
Clarke resigned as the Scotland boss after failing to progress out of the group stages of a national tournament for the third time in a row.
However, that resignation sparked a mini inquest into the players Clarke used with Celtic duo Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston making the top 20 of Scotland stars the former boss had complete trust in.
Ange Postecoglou as Scotland’s next manager. What do you think? 🤔
If not Ange, name your other options….🏴👇
Celtic’s Kieran Tierney makes top 10 of Clarke’s most trusted Scotland players
Kieran Tierney earned 46 of his 58 Scotland caps under Clarke which is remarkable considering his injury issues at Arsenal.
Of the 46 caps earned under Clarke, 37 were in Scotland’s starting XI with just nine coming off the bench.
The Celtic full-back has proven that not only is he important for the Parkhead club, but Tierney was vital in helping Clarke take Scotland to two Euros and a World Cup.
Anthony Ralston was an honest and reliable deputy for Scotland
Anthony Ralston faces fierce competition for the right-back spot at Scotland. Playing second fiddle to the likes of Nathan Patterson and Aaron Hickey, the Celtic defender has had to be patient to add to his cap tally.
However, despite that, Clarke capped Ralston 29 times with 16 of those coming in Scotland’s starting XI, with 13 off the bench.
Just like at Celtic, Ralston has proved to be a trusted member of Clarke’s Scotland personnel proving that despite being third-choice, the full-back was a player Clarke knew he could rely on when called upon.
