Kieran Tierney has paid tribute to the departing Celtic full-back Mikael Lustig. The Swede is leaving the club after seven-and-a-half years and 16 trophies. He’ll be missed by the Celtic support and his former teammates alike.

Tierney was just 14 when Lustig joined the club back in 2012. There may be a ten year age gap between the duo but they’ve clearly fostered a good friendship judging by the Scottish international’s farewell message.

He took to Instagram and posted two images, the first of which was the pair celebrating Celtic’s fifth title triumph back in 2016.

The Scottish full-back included the lyrics of Lustig’s Celtic anthem, a song first sang by English pop group Atomic Kitten. He also posted a second message of the pair sharing an embrace.

The two images are likely to have Celtic fans reaching for the tissues wherever they are as they say goodbye to a Celtic icon.

Lustig’s departure

The effect of Lustig’s departure can’t be underestimated. The Swede has been a massive part of Celtic’s success for a long period of time. Only two players have played more games for the club in the last decade.

Lustig has been through thick and thin with the club under the stewardship of three managers. It’s always important to have guys at your club who have experienced the good and the bad. It makes them more hungry to succeed in the future.

The Celtic dressing room will be a poorer place without the Swede. It is now up to someone else to fill that void, both on and off the pitch.
