Kieran Tierney admits that he was ‘surprised’ that there was no severe punishment dished out for a tackle that left the Celtic defender with a broken nose as the Hoops hero admits he ‘feared the worst’.
The Hoops star was involved in a collision with Dundee’s Cameron Congreve after Celtic defender Tierney was injured with a high boot challenge which broke his nose.
Although he wasn’t out for a prolonged period of time, there were fears that Tierney’s injury may have been more severe as he lay motionless for several minutes in the Celtic Park win over Dundee.
Kieran Tierney has been one of Celtic’s best players this season…
Agree or disagree?
And now, Tierney has spoken out saying he ‘feared the worst’ as he lay injured on the Celtic Park turf during the Scottish Cup win.

Kieran Tierney ‘feared the worst’ with Celtic Park injury vs Dundee
Tierney’s record with injury has not been the best over the last few seasons, but at Celtic, the defender has only suffered one serious setback.
However, when he was booted in the face, Tierney admits he thought the injury was worse than what it actually was.
Tierney told the Daily Record, “I feared the worst, anything around your nose and mouth area, especially when you’ve had it before.
“I’m really lucky to only have a broken nose, to be honest. I’m just glad it wasn’t worse and I was able to play again so soon, because my record of being available this season, touch wood, has been pretty good.
“So I want to keep that going and don’t want to miss any more games.”
Kieran Tierney ‘was surprised’ with Dundee player’s Celtic Park punishment
Whilst Congreve was booked for the challenge, Tierney admits he was surprised that the Dundee defender did not receive a harsher Celtic Park punishment.
Tierney continued, “I jumped for a header, won it and got clattered by a boot.
“I was surprised more wasn’t made of it because I knew I’d won the header, I wasn’t low and it was a high boot.
“We have seen them given against us, so I thought at the time it was going to be [a red card]. You see plenty of examples of decisions for and against you, sometimes it does go for you and others it doesn’t.”
Thankfully, Tierney is back to full fitness and with Marcelo Saracchi back in action, Celtic are looking really strong now in the left-back area.
With Kilmarnock up next, Martin O’Neill has a tough choice to make on who out of the Celtic pair will start vs Kilmarnock.
And it’s a decision that the Celtic manager will welcome now that the Hoops’ injury worries start to ease slightly.
