Kieran Tierney shares what James Forrest told him on the bus about being Celtic’s most decorated player

It’s great for Celtic to have the old band back together.

Kieran Tierney left Celtic in 2019, and in the six years that have passed, there are still some familiar faces around Lennoxtown.

Of course, one of the most popular of them all is James Forrest after he produced another record-breaking season for the champions of Scotland.

That trophy day goal against St Mirren is one the supporters will remember for a very long time, but of course, the season is going to be remembered for much more than that.

And that’s Forrest becoming Celtic’s most decorated player of all time, surpassing the great Bobby Lennox.

What James Forrest told Kieran Tierney

With Tierney being a boyhood Celtic fan, you can bet your bottom dollar that he was going to ask Forrest about reaching such a feat in his career.

The returning left-back told Celtic TV that when he asked Forrest about it ‘on the bus’ and he simply stated, ‘no, I don’t think about it too much.’

Tierney wanted to laud the ‘humble’ nature of his all-action teammate, and how it’s ‘absolutely incredible’ that he has played for Celtic for so long.

“Exactly,” responded Tierney, on Forrest being talked about in this day and age, about having legendary status.

“I said to him on the bus the other day, ‘do you not just sit and think about that every single day that you are the most decorated player?’

“He is like, ‘no, don’t think too much about it.’ But that’s just how humble he is. He just keeps working hard. Keep going. For him to be at Celtic for this long is absolutely incredible.”

How many trophies has Tierney won at Celtic?

Forrest sits top of the list with 26 trophies, and the only man who can realistically surpass him is his captain, Callum McGregor (24 trophies).

That’s because McGregor is two years younger than Forrest, and also a regular first-teamer, but don’t discount Tierney.

After just turning 28, Tierney is sitting on 11 domestic trophies with Celtic, and if the club continues to dominate like it has done for years, then don’t rule out a climb up that trophy table from the man on the left flank.
