Kieran Tierney should not play for Celtic again this season

Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon recently revealed some news that Hoops fans wouldn’t have wanted to hear.

He disclosed that Kieran Tierney may need a hip operation, but that the club are hoping to hold the operation off until the end of the season.

Understandable stance from club

In a way that is understandable. Tierney is one of Celtic’s most important players. Naturally the club would want him to play as many games as he can between now and the end of the season.

However, perhaps it would do the player good to get the operation done as soon as possible. For a start, there is a natural replacement available at left-back in Emilio Izaguirre. Jonny Hayes is also capable of playing in that role.

Clean bill of health ahead of summer

Most importantly, the operation would hopefully give Tierney a clean bill of health ahead of next season. It would also give him plenty of time to recuperate ahead of the summer’s Champions League qualifiers.

It might be a case of short-term pain for long-term gain when it comes to Tierney. Naturally it would be a blow if he missed the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts.

However, it would be best for all involved at the club if he was fully fit for the Champions League qualifiers. They will be massive for Celtic when it comes to the club’s finances. Therefore, Tierney should get his operation as soon as possible and return in the summer.
