Former Celtic hero Kieran Tierney is unlikely to play football again until April after the length of his injury rehabilitation was revealed.

The Irish Mirror are one of the many outlets reporting that the full-back will be out for three months after picking up an injury on his right shoulder at the start of last month.

Tierney has recently undergone shoulder surgery but is not expected back in full contact training until at least March.

In total, he has played just 11 times since leaving Celtic in August.

Celtic may have played a blinder given Tierney injury woes

This season is looking like a complete write-off for the youngster who excelled under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage. He’s had injury after injury to contend with and the fact this latest knock will keep him out till April means that his season is virtually over.

It seems completely harsh to say it given that Tierney is a club hero, but maybe we have played a blinder by moving him on for £25million in the summer.

Had we been relying on him this season, our left-back situation would have looked a hell of a lot more precarious. Greg Taylor would probably not have been signed and we would have been completely dependant on Boli Bolingoli or utility man Jonny Hayes.

As it stands, we still have a bit of an issue in the position but Taylor has the ability to change all of that if he can get a run in the team. The former Kilmarnock man should also have an eye on international matters too given that Tierney will almost certainly miss Scotland’s upcoming play-off game(s).

Of course, he still has Andy Robertson ahead of him in the pecking order. But Taylor’s chances are certainly improving – both at club and international level.
