Korean media’s reaction to Hyeongyu Oh display will delight the Celtic support

The international break seems to have a magical effect on some Celtic players. Especially those that are deemed to be struggling for form or are on the periphery of the first team.

Think about it. Just before the World Cup, the jury was still out on Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy and, to a lesser extent, Japanese striker, Daizen Maeda.

Mooy was handed his first start in the ill-fated 2-0 loss to St Mirren at Love Street. Although he had shown flashes of the player that he could become, many fans were doubtful that he could make any real impact on the first team.

And the same can be said for Maeda. The explosive forward was lacking in consistency and despite a goal-scoring debut in January of last year, there were also doubts about his ability to deliver that killer final ball and about his composure in front of goal in general. Although it has to be said, his work rate never failed to impress us all.

But after both players represented their countries in Qatar World Cup, they returned to the club energised and with renewed self-confidence.

And after his substitute appearances for South Korea in this international break, it looks like history may repeat itself after Hyeongyu Oh impressed the Korean media with his performances for his country.

What are the media saying about Celtic’s young forward?

Khan described his performance as ‘dazzling’ whilst Dalian said the 21-year-old ‘shone’.

Seol TV and KBS were both singing from the same hymn sheet and said Oh ‘wowed the fans’ whilst the former went that bit further and said the striker was a ‘stand out’.

Asia Today were left impressed with Postecoglou’s new signing as they claimed the youngster ‘made a strong impression’ despite only getting limited minutes off the bench.

I’m not going to lie. I had my reservations about selling a proven striker in Giorgos Giakoumakis and replacing him with a relatively unknown quantity.

But, my goodness, Oh certainly has certainly left an impression in his homeland and if he can replicate his performances for his country back at Celtic, Ange Postecoglou will have pulled off yet another transfer masterstroke.
