Kris Boyd has just handed Celtic the perfect added derby motivation

Pundit Kris Boyd would only have two Celtic players in a combined team with Rangers, he’s revealed ahead of Saturday’s derby.

There are only two days to go until one of the biggest Scottish Premiership matches in years.

Neil Lennon’s Bhoys travel to Ibrox in an effort to cut the gap at the top of the table.

A win to kick-off 2021 would be a huge statement of intent from Celtic, who hold three games in hand on Steven Gerrard’s outfit.

That’s enough motivation for any team, nevermind the heated rivalry between supporters.

However, Boyd’s declaration to the Scottish Sun that only Odsonne Edouard and David Turnbull would get into the Rangers team is added incentive for anyone taking personal pride in their performances.

Extra Celtic motivation

Stars like Callum McGregor and Christopher Jullien, who have won multiple trophies at the club at the expense of, well everyone, at Ibrox may have an extra point to prove at the weekend if selected.

Whatever they say, professional footballers take notice of what is said in the media. That’s especially true when it comes to Celtic comparisons to Rangers, I’d expect.

Celtic have a massive chance to give the Rangers players, and their self-congratulating media pals, a huge fright on Saturday.

It’s not going to be easy at Ibrox. Victory is far from guaranteed.

However, hopefully, the team have enough swagger and confidence about them to put up a real fight. Recent form suggests they will.

Lennon will be making it very clear to them all that the team have the opportunity to show why they are still the only Scottish side to win a trophy since 2016.

The media hype surrounding Steven Gerrard’s team won’t hurt. It could massively backfire come full-time on Saturday.

Here’s hoping.

In other news, these are the 3 big Celtic transfer targets heading into January.
