Kris Boyd makes it clear that Kasper Schmeichel is already better than Joe Hart at one thing at Celtic

Celtic’s recruitment continues to showcase its worth.

Many players prove that and during Celtic’s win over Hibernian on Saturday afternoon, Kasper Schmeichel stuck his chest out and produced a Man of the Match display.

Brendan Rodgers reunited with the 38-year-old this summer after working with him at Leicester City and he had big boots to fill.

Joe Hart retired in the summer and it left a big void in between Celtic’s sticks, so the next man coming in had to be right.

Fast forward to the present and the powers that be can put another tick in the transfer recruitment box because Schmeichel has been brilliant.

Yes, it’s only been a few months, but a lot of games have been played and you can get a fair gauge as to what the new man in goal does right and how he compares to Hart.

The style of play is huge for Rodgers and he thrives off his teams playing out from the back and the fullbacks coming into the middle of the park to control the match.

That also requires the goalkeeper to have the bravery, decision-making, passing range and technical ability to play out from the back.

Following Schmeichel’s Man of the Match display against Hibs, Kris Boyd lauded his efforts and explained how he has been a ‘huge signing’ for the club, as he told Sky Sports Football (08/12/24 at 11:10 am).

The former striker added that Schmeichel is also proving to be better than Hart at playing out from the back.

“When you look at Joe Hart leaving and bringing in Schmeichel, it’s a huge bit of business for Celtic in the summer,” said Boyd. 

“Arguably improved them in that position. Not only that, I think your keepers for Celtic and Rangers, there might be a lot of the time when they are asked to do nothing. Then they have to make a big save. I know that was early doors, but it was a big save in the context of that game (against Hibs). Then he goes on to have another couple after that.

“He has been a huge signing for Celtic, Kasper Schmeichel and will continue to be. The way Brendan Rodgers wants to play. Playing out from the back. I think he is better than what Joe Hart was. He starts a lot of the moves off as well, the quickness. There was one on Wednesday night as well. The half volley to the right-hand side. It was outstanding.”

As the season wears on, the more Celtic fans will find out about Schmeichel, the more they will understand what he is about, but so far, it’s so good.

Some huge games await the club this week, including that League Cup Final against Rangers and Schmeichel’s chance to win his first piece of silverware in Glasgow.
