Kris Boyd needs a reality check after bonkers claim about Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi & Hearts star Lawrence Shankland

‘Kyogo couldn’t finish like that’ were the words uttered by Kris Boyd about Celtic’s talisman during Hearts’ 1-0 win over Hibernian on Wednesday night.

Lawrence Shankland was the man who provided the bragging rights for Hearts with a stunning left-footed curler in stoppage-time in the Edinburgh derby.

There is no doubt that he is in red-hot form, scoring goals for fun and it could result in the Scotland star securing a January exit.

But Kris Boyd’s suggestion that Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi ‘couldn’t finish’ like the Hearts striker and that he is ‘the best in the league’ is just bonkers.

The former striker was right to praise Lawrence Shankland for his efforts on Sky Sports Football (27/12/23 at 9:00 pm).

But form is temporary and class is permanent. Just because Kyogo Furuhashi is out-of-form for Celtic, it doesn’t mean you still wouldn’t have him ahead of every single striker in Scotland right now.

And the suggestion that the Japan star ‘couldn’t finish like that’ is even crazier. Perhaps Kris Boyd needs to be reminded about his winner at Ibrox this season?!

Or the 19 goals he has scored with his so-called weaker foot during his time at Celtic?

Kyogo has trophy-winning goals to his name. In the biggest of games and over an entire season and deserves much more respect than the drivel coming out of Boyd’s mouth.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Lawrence Shankland’s finishing

“When you look at that finish,” said Boyd about Shankland’s winner at Hibs. “The composure when he comes back onto his left foot. It’s an unbelievable finish into the top corner. What a goal it is.

“It’s his weaker foot as well. I have spoken about Kyogo in this league, in terms of they are different types of strikers. Kyogo couldn’t finish like that. His finish is unbelievable, and for me, he is the best in the league.”

Kyogo Furuhashi against Rangers

As mentioned, things just haven’t been right with Kyogo this season, but it’s only a matter of time before he explodes again.

His goal against Livingston last week was much-needed, you could see the relief in his face and it should now kick-start his goalscoring threats again.

Plus, this Saturday, he is coming up against his favourite opponents. With six goals against Rangers, perhaps this is the type of occasion he needs to remind everyone about what he is capable of.

Kris Boyd should be on punditry duty for that game, so he can witness Kyogo produce all his glory in high definition.
