The big games just keep coming for Celtic as the League Cup final against Rangers at Hampden looms.

The opportunity to win the first piece of silverware of the season for both teams is a massive carrot to dangle.

With the gap between Celtic and Rangers bigger than it has ever been at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, fans will be confident of getting a positive result at the national stadium.

One person who doesn’t sound confident is former Rangers striker, Kris Boyd as he talks up the strength of Celtic ahead of facing Rangers in the League Cup final.

Kris Boyd admits ‘everything is clicking’ at Celtic ahead of Rangers game

Speaking before Celtic’s Champions League draw with Dinamo Zagreb, Boyd rhymed off the strength of the Scottish champions’ sqaud depth ahead of the Hampden clash.

Boyd told Go Ballistic, “You look at Celtic, just everything right now just seems to be clicking. It wasn’t the best defensive performance on Saturday [against Hibs], shall we say.

“They still came away with a clean sheet. And the goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, probably had more to do than was expected.

“But when he’s asked to make saves, he makes them. But you just look at Celtic, whoever plays at left back it doesn’t really seem to be an issue.”

Kris Boyd’s envy as he talks up Celtic’s ‘stick on’ starters vs Rangers

Not finished there, Boyd also went on to speak about who would start for Celtic against Rangers and named two players who were ‘stick-ons’ for the Rodgers’ starting lineup.

“At centre-back,” Boyd continued, “There were probably more opportunities given up on Saturday, but Carter-Vickers went straight back into the heart of defence on Tuesday night and Johnston as well.

“And then you put it in the middle of the pitch. I mean, it could be anyone. McGregor’s an absolute stick-on. You would imagine Hatate’s a stick-on. And then it’ll be one of the three that we mentioned.

“And then the forward areas, he can chop and change and do whatever he wants.”

Brendan Rodgers should have a full squad to choose from after Celtic defender Alistair Johnston was deemed okay to face Rangers after his Zagreb injury.

Whilst nothing can be taken for granted, and not one Celtic fan will, there will be confidence amongst many that the League Cup should be resting in the Parkhead trophy cabinet come 5:30pm on Sunday.
